Theodor S., Germany

Theodor loves playing the drums.  It’s his favorite hobby so he’s motivated to spend his spare time practicing.  Theodor has performed in three live concerts but he is not a member of a band.  If possible, he hopes to find a band to join in the U.S. so he can continue his training.  He trains once a week at a studio with a drum coach and practices at another studio two days a week. 

Nick V., Netherlands

What’s that strange sound outdoors?  It’s Nick and his metal detector.  After he completes his homework, he goes outside to search for treasures with his metal detector.  He has already found some old coins, rings and musket bullets.  A silver 1557 Philipsdaalder coin is the oldest and most beautiful item he has found.  Nick’s other interests include hiking, camping, water polo and baking cakes.  He looks forward to baking with his host family in the U.S.  His future goal is to become a pathologist at a hospital.

Nick V., Netherlands

Nick loves the outdoors!  He is a member of the sea scouts and joins them every Saturday for group activities.  In the summer, they go sailing on the Maas.  During the winter, he and the other scouts maintain the boats. Nick enjoys the scouts because of the outdoor activities and the friendships he has developed.  The sea scouts also introduced him to other interests such as hiking, camping, water polo and searching for treasures with a metal detector.  After he has completed his homework, he likes to go outside to search with his metal detector.  He has already found some old coins, rings and musket bullets.  A silver 1557 Philipsdaalder coin is the oldest and most beautiful item he has found.  Nick also enjoys baking cakes and looks forward to baking with his host family.  His future goal is to become a pathologist at a hospital.

Yu-En Y., Taiwan, Province of China

Yu-En, also known as Ryan, enjoys outdoor activities.  Fishing is his favorite outdoor sport.  He goes fishing every weekend with family and friends.  If possible, he’s looking forward to fishing with his host family in the U.S.  Apart from fishing, he is also passionate about toys and likes to collect them.  Ryan feels that toys bring joy to every one of all ages.  In the future, he hopes to start a toy business and open a toy store.  In addition, he is also interested in drama/theater and enjoys playing cards during his spare time.


Exchange Students Who Enjoy Robotics

Duy B., Vietnam

Duy is also known as Shi.  Shi likes to compete in science fairs.  In 2015, he participated in an international robotics competition called LEGO Education Robotics.  He felt that it was a memorable learning experience.  The tournament was the largest annual robotics event held in his city.  There were 100 teams from schools and universities.  Shi’s interests also include badminton, swimming, and soccer.  In his spare time, he enjoys playing his guitar and piano.  Shi is looking forward to participating in many new school activities and clubs in the U.S.  In the future, his goal is to pursue a career in robotics.

Benito R., Chile

Benito began training Kyokushin Karate at 10 years old.  Kyokushin Karate is a stand up, full contact Japanese martial art - (Kyokushin means “ultimate truth”).  He believes it has made a positive impact on his growth and development.  He attributes his ability to stay calm as well as his people skills to Kyokushin.  He’s also interested in other activities such as cooking, diving, sailing and photography.  In the future, Benito’s goal is to become an Engineer or a Mathematician after attending the university.

Witchapon’s nickname is Fort.  In school, his favorite activity is the marching band.  He plays the clarinet and practices every morning.  The marching band allows him the opportunity to collaborate with fellow music students and gain memorable experiences.  Fort also enjoys playing the guitar at home.  His other interests include cooking, computers, gardening and photography.  He enjoys sports activities like bicycling, martial arts, soccer and swimming In the future, Fort hopes to study math and science at a university.


Students with Dual Cultures

Mikail, Germany

Mikail really loves to play soccer and board games with friends and family and to read or watch animes. His favorite board game is “phase 10”. He also likes to invent board games with his friends. He is excited to share those games and play games together. His plan for the future is to study architecture.  His grandparents are from Turkey, so he has learned their language and knows a lot about that culture as well.


Exchange Students Who Like to Dance!!

Phillip R., Germany

 

Phillip is a Latin American and ballroom dancer.  He started at an early age at his dad’s dance school.  Through the years, Phillip practiced and trained 10 hours a week.  For the past 9 years, he has competed with his dance partner in a number of national and international dance competitions.  They were very successful until recently when his partner suffered a back injury.  As a result, his partner withdrew from competitive dance and he is currently searching for a new partner.  Besides dancing, Phillip has tried other sports such as tennis, soccer, swimming and judo.  He’s looking forward to experiencing track and baseball in the U.S.  His future goals are to travel and learn about different cultures.

Vicente was born in Brazil.  He is the 4th of 6 children, who he takes care of very responsibly.  He loves sports, especially soccer and basketball.  He finds it rewarding to help poor people in need, and wants to do similar community service in the US.  He is a sociable and giving individual who likes to share and help others.

Rik K., Netherlands

Rik loves to paint because it brings joy to his life.  He makes friends easily, especially through sports.  Rik has played soccer since the age of six as the goal-keeper.  Last year, he focused on track and ran the 100 & 200 meter.  Rik's passion is movies and the movie industry, where he hopes to one day have a career.  Since he’s an animal lover, he owns two cats and volunteers at an animal shelter where he walks the dogs.

Maximilian B., Germany

Maximilian is passionate about art, especially drawing.  Since an art course is not included in his school schedule, he attends outside classes in the afternoon, in which he has made a number of close friends.  Maximilian’s interests include running, skiing, playing the guitar and photography.  His family is tight-knit and enjoys cooking, watching movies and traveling.  He’s looking forward to spending time with his host family in the US.  His dream is to study design.

Andreas K., Germany

Andreas is passionate about space technology and wants to become an aerospace engineer.  Andreas’ favorite school subjects are math and physics, so he loves learning about cosmology.  In his spare time, Andreas enjoys building hand crafted model aircraft with his grandfather.  His grandfather has a large garage with many tools and workbench.  A few years ago, they built a model airship which now hangs in his room.  Besides space technology, his other interests include photography, debating, drama, drawing, soccer and swimming.

Nick’s hobbies include computers, bike riding and wrestling.  He’s a friendly and helpful person, who is always open to assist someone.  It’s very important to Nick to spend time with his mother and friends.  Nick enjoys discovering new places in his city and open to new experiences, cultures and cuisine.  He dreams of traveling the world.

Leonard’s interests include playing computer games and constructing LEGO bricks to learn creative strategy.  As well as listening to heavy metal music, he is open to trying new things.  Leonard is willing to participate in host family’s activities, including cooking and church activities.  Leonard hopes to study mechanical engineering at a university.

Nutdanai is a part of a bilingual English program at school where all of the subjects are taught in English. She is very interested in learning more about American culture firsthand. When she’s not in school, she enjoys being with her friends, going for a walk, reading, and visiting new places.

Archiradeth hopes to be a prosecutor or diplomat in the future since he is very interested in law. He likes playing badminton and basketball with his family and friends. He also enjoys cooking Thai food for his family, especially Thai desserts.

Jirachai wants to be an engineer in the future. He has many interests; badminton, swimming, cooking for his family, drawing, cycling, playing the flute, and table tennis. He hopes to travel to different countries and eat delicious food every day.

Pattharachon, also known as Oat, is a funny, honest, easy-going, patient and friendly person. He loves learning new things, and is very interested in food, sports, movies, music and travel. His favorite subjects are English, Social Studies and Mathematics. He hopes to become a chef and open up a restaurant in the future.

Vorawut, also known as Tong, is easy going, generous, patient, friendly, gentle, warmth, reasonable, honest, has a sense of humor and is very responsible. He is very open-minded to learning new things. He likes to play the guitar, sometimes his band plays for charity. To improve his English, he watches American movies, listens to American music and watches American basketball. He hopes to play basketball while he is in the U.S.

Yang-Chih, also known as Curry, is looking forward to experiencing the U.S. and being able to broaden his point of view. He loves all sports but especially loves basketball and baseball. He also loves camping, music, and photography.

Sheng-Chieh, also known as Sam, has been playing the drums for four years now and is currently a member of his school band. He enjoys playing sports; he especially likes basketball, ping-pong, and baseball. Though he has not had the opportunity to volunteer in Taiwan, he hopes to do so during his exchange year – as he loves to help other people.

Hsu-Ting, also known as Conor, is optimistic and open-minded. He hopes to be able to share his culture with you through cooking delicious Chinese dishes for your family. He enjoys playing basketball and golf.

Wei Kai, also known as Kevin or Kai-Kai, is really interested in baseball. His favorite team is the New York Yankees and his favorite player is Derek Jeter. He hopes to be able to watch a baseball game when he is America as he has only seen baseball games on TV before.

Shing Chung, “Oliver”

Shing Chung, nicknamed Oliver, enjoys swimming, baseball and golf.  His favorite sports activity is badminton, which he has played on the school team for the past few years.  He hopes to continue playing in the US if possible.  Oliver and his family love to travel together on vacation.  During the last holiday, they visited Singapore and Taiwan.  He is looking forward to family activities and sharing new experiences with his host family.

Ke Hwa

Ke Hwa is an active, outgoing and energetic person who is especially fond of playing basketball.  He trains three times a week and has played on the school team for the past few years.  His team has made it to several championship finals as well as won some school competitions.  His interests also include running, badminton, gymnastics, handball, hiking, swimming table tennis and tennis.  Ke Hwa aspires to be a physiotherapist in the future.

Malik

Malik is the eldest out of 5 siblings. He plays carrom, a table-top game similar to billiards or table shuffleboard, with his siblings. He likes playing cricket and soccer with his friends. After high school, Malik is planning on studying computer science as he wants to become a software engineer. Malik is eager to learn more about American customs and to share his culture with you.

Mikail K., Germany

Mikail is Muslim and bilingual, he’s able to speak German and Turkish.  He is open to participating in religious activities with his host family.  In his spare time, he truly enjoys family activities like board games and playing soccer with his friends.  His favorite board game is called “Phase 10”.  Mikail is looking forward to sharing his two cultures and spending time with his host family in the US.  His dream is to become an architect, learn other languages and travel the world.

Jonathan L., Germany

Jonathan is Jewish and attended Hebrew Sunday School until he turned thirteen.  He is able to read, write and speak in Hebrew.  On program, he is open to participating in religious activities with his host family.  His grandfather taught him to play chess and now he’s a member of the chess club at school as well as competes in chess tournaments.  His favorite subjects are different languages (English and French) and humanities.  Jonathan enjoys participating in charity events and community service work.  In the future, his goal is to study law.

Johannes is Catholic.  He is an altar boy and attends church weekly with his Dad.  School and education are his top priority. His favorite subjects are Math, English and Latin.  Johannes' passion is table tennis. He practices weekly and even trains others. He also really enjoys music and plays the trombone. Johannes keeps up with current news, and pays close attention to politics.  He hopes to one day be a Political German Representative.
